The Crafco Lab Melter provides DOTs and researchers with an accurate, consistent and simple way to heat hot-applied asphalt-based sealant according to ASTM D5167 specifications. It is the only lab-focused melter on the market built specifically for this purpose.

The Crafco Lab Melter features two 48oz. removable sample cans for easy cleanup between tests. The removable lids prevent splashing and provide added protection against sample contamination.
Maintaining a consistent, precise temperature is crucial to ensuring materials meet the specification. The Lab Melter features electronic temperature control and an easy to read thermometer for the oil bath, ensuring predictable, reliable conditions.
The Lab Melter’s oil bath simulates the oil-jacketed design of melters used in application, ensuring gentle, even heat without scorching or hot spots. The oil is constantly circulated with an adjustable speed 1/15 HP motor. Two electric heater rods provide ample heat to efficiently and quickly warm the material as high as 550° F (280° C). A spout on the oil tank allows for easy draining when it’s time to replace the heat transfer oil.
The Crafco Lab Melter is available in different power configurations depending on region.
Lab Melter 40400 – For use in the United States, Canada, Central America and South America. Mixers, controls and heaters require 120VAC 60Hz. Two heater rods rated for 2300W.
Lab Melter 40500 – For International and European Union use. Mixers and controls require 120VAC 60Hz; power converter required for countries with 50Hz. Two heater rods require 220-240VAC 50/60Hz, rated for 1900W.
